Luxembourg data protection authority fines Amazon EUR 746m

On 19 March 2025, the Luxembourg data protection authority confirmed that the decision it made to fine Amazon in 2021 (which Amazon appealed) has been confirmed by the Luxembourg Administrative Court.

The fine appears to relate to action taken by a digital rights advocacy group, La Quadrature du Net, in respect of the alleged failure by Amazon to obtain proper consent for targeted advertising, but the Luxembourg Administrative Court has not provided details as the case is potentially ongoing.

Amazon has a further right of appeal which means the enforcement of the decision is currently suspended.
