Senior Associate

Your new role title
Senior Associate

Location for your new role
Anywhere in the UK … your new role will be primarily home working with attendance at client’s offices as required.

Your role – the details
Taking the lead on delivering legal advice and DPO services to clients. This will involve:

• Identifying client requirements and delivering pragmatic legal solutions.
• Designing and delivering compliance projects for clients.
• Supervision and development of junior team members.
• Leading contract reviews and negotiations for clients.
• Advising on overseas data transfer issues.
• Advising clients on data breaches.
• Helping to build teams to deliver legal advice and DPO services effectively for clients.

Your business development tasks
• Supporting development and roll out of our e-learning solution.
• Developing your own network of clients and prospective clients.
• Helping to organise and speak at our regular DPO Confessional seminars.
• Writing articles for publication in journals and blogs for our website.
• Arranging and leading on webinars.

What you will bring to the team

• Confident, approachable, works autonomously, taking the lead and ownership of matters.
• The ability to work independently to support clients.
• Intelligent, proactive, hard-working, team-player. Sense of humour essential!
• Ability to balance legal and regulatory obligations with client’s business needs – i.e. “being commercial”.

• Experience of influencing and raising awareness of data protection across organisations.
• Can manage difficult issues diplomatically.
• Hands on experience of advising on data protection and privacy laws, including experience of operationalising legal requirements to ensure requirements are embedded into business processes.
• Experience of reporting to senior stakeholders on data protection compliance matters.
• Experience of performing the statutory role of a DPO is desirable, but not essential.

Your education and practical experience
• Graduate – minimum 2:1 degree.
• Qualified lawyer with post-qualification experience in private practice or in-house.
• IAPP CIPP/E, CIPM or similar data protection qualification is desirable but not essential.
• A minimum of 5 years data protection and privacy experience.
• In depth knowledge of data protection requirements within the European Union and awareness of data protection requirements globally.

Your soft skills
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively with Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Data Protection Compliance Manager

Your new role title
Data Protection Compliance Manager

Location for your new role
Anywhere in the UK … your role will be primarily home working with attendance at our office in London once a week (when permitted post-lockdown) and attendance at client’s offices as required.

Your role – the details

Providing advice and support to our clients across a range of sectors on privacy and data protection matters. This will involve:

• Drafting privacy notices and data protection policies.
• Advising on individuals’ rights under data protection laws and regulations.
• Carrying out, reviewing and providing input on LIAs and DPIAs.
• Carrying out audits to assess and advise on compliance with data protection laws and regulations.
• Reviewing and assisting with the preparation of Article 30 ROPAs.
• Reviewing, advising on and negotiating data protection agreements and clauses.
• Advising on overseas transfer requirements and Brexit.
• Supporting with data breach management and reporting of breaches to regulators and to data subjects.

Supporting with the provision of DPO services to clients where HelloDPO is the client’s DPO. This will involve:

• Attending regular face to face meetings with clients.
• Preparing DPO compliance programmes of work.
• Assisting with raising awareness of data protection requirements across the client’s organisation, including preparing and delivering training workshops.
• Reviewing data subject request procedures and advising on same.
• Carrying out audits and writing up audit reports.
• Reviewing and advising on DPIAs.
• Assessing risks associated with data breaches and advising on actions required.
• Preparing and inputting into board reports.
• Advising on ad hoc queries from the client and the business.

Business development tasks
• Developing your own network of clients and prospective clients.
