Council of the EU agrees its mandate on the Digital Omnibus

The Council of the EU agreed its position on the proposal for simplifications to some data protection, privacy and security rules under the Digital Omnibus.

The Council has (amongst other measures) rejected amendments to the definition of personal data, introduced an amendment outlining pseudonymisation standards, made amendments to provisions relating to AI and personal data use, added specific consent exemptions for cookies and preferred cybersecurity incident reporting at a national rather than EU level.

We now await the EU Parliament’s adoption of their position so that they can proceed to negotiate. The Council of the EU’s press release states that the negotiation will be with a view to “a speedy agreement”.

We will continue to keep you updated as the legislation progresses.

You can see full details of the Council’s position here.
