How do I respond to a DSAR?
If you choose to manage a DSAR in-house, here are five tips to consider. 1. Diarise the request and act promptly as you have one month to respond. 2. Verify the data subject’s identity. 3. Can I refuse a DSAR?
- Yes, but only if exemptions apply. You will need to carefully consider the application of exemptions and explain your reason for refusing to the data subject.
Does how we receive the DSAR matter?
- The GDPR does not specify the form in which a DSAR can be made. DSARs can be made to an organisation via phone, email, social media or in-person. It’s important that all members of your organisation can recognise a DSAR and know who to contact to ensure the correct procedure is followed to enable a timely response.
