UK government announces planned commencement dates for Data (Use and Access) Act 2025

On 21 July 2025 the UK Government issued its first commencement regulations in relation to the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (the Act). Following this, on 25 July 2025, it released its plans for bringing the remainder of the Act into force.

Some of the more technical provisions along with those that relate to the ICO’s statutory objectives and the AI and copyright provisions come into force on 20 August 2025.

The majority of the data protection provisions will come into force six months after Royal Assent, so this should be in December 2025. A date to add to your diary!

The commencement plans can be found here.
