On 19 November 2025 the commercial court in Madrid ordered Meta to pay compensation for anti competitive behaviour, using unlawful data processing to give it an unfair advantage in advertising.
The case relates to Meta’s actions pre the 2023 change from legitimate interests to consent as the legal basis for advertising.
The Independent reports that the Spanish Court has said the ruling may affect similar claims against Meta elsewhere in Europe.
