EDPB publishes its 2025 Coordinated Enforcement Framework report

On 18 February 2026, the EDPB published its report on the Coordinated Enforcement Framework (CEF) on the right to erasure. The right to erasure was chosen due to its frequent use by individuals and the significant number of related complaints.

The report highlighted the following issues with implementing the right:

  • insufficient internal procedures for managing erasure requests

  • inadequate staff training

  • lack of clear information provided to data subjects

  • failure to properly apply exemptions

  • ineffective anonymisation techniques used as an alternative to deletion

  • difficulties determining and applying retention periods

  • problems deleting from back up systems

Many data protection authorities are planning follow up to raise awareness about how to deal with the right of erasure.

If some of the issues above sound familiar, please do get in touch by emailing hello@hellodpo.com and we can help to get you on track to compliance.
