ICO releases interactive transfer assessment tool

On 3 March 2026,  the ICO released an interactive transfer assessment tool. The tool is part of the ICO’s wider guidance on international transfers and promises a quick 10 minute check on whether you are undertaking a restricted transfer and therefore need to comply with the transfer rules. The assessment is modelled on the ICO’s “3 step test” i.e :

  • Does the UK GDPR apply to the processing of the personal information you are transferring?
  • Are you initiating the transfer of personal information to an organisation located outside the UK?
  • Is the organisation receiving the personal information a separate legal entity to you?
