ICO statement on sharing of information by banks

The ICO has responded to concern about banks sharing personal information with the media following the complaint raised by Nigel Farage that NatWest passed information about him to the BBC.

The Commissioner confirmed that he had written to the banks to remind them of their responsibilities to the public and said that Mr Farage’s experience underlined the importance of data protection rights, providing brief guidance on how to exercise the right of access.
