ICO’s strategic approach to AI

Last month the ICO released its strategic approach to AI.

The report covers:

  • The opportunities and risks of AI
  • The role of data protection law
  • The ICO’s work on AI
  • Upcoming developments
  • Working together (with e.g. the FCA, Ofcom etc.)

The ICO’s approach is risk based and founded on principles of data protection law which largely align with the principles set out in the Government’s white paper on AI. The ICO explains how the two sets of principles sit alongside each other and makes reference to guidance produced and in development to assist organisations in complying.
