AI (Regulation) Bill reaches 3rd reading

The AI (Regulation) Bill originated in the House of Lords in November 2023 and has recently reached a third reading. The bill defines AI, sets out principles, establishes an AI authority and AI Responsible Officers (within businesses who develop/deploy/use AI), creates regulatory sandboxes and sets out requirements in relation to transparency, intellectual property and labelling/consent.

Whilst the success rate of private members’ bills tends to be low, there has been some suggestion that the Government might be reconsidering its position in relation to AI legislation. There are no details as yet, but we will keep you updated as and when we know more.
