Meta update

As usual, things have been busy in Meta’s world with the following developments in the last few weeks:

  • They have confirmed they will seek consent for targeted advertising aimed at users in the EEA and Switzerland. We understand further information on how the process will work will be provided in the coming months. The ICO has confirmed it is “assessing what this means for information rights of people in the UK and considering an appropriate response.”
  • Mlex has reported that the stays Meta obtained on two enforcement orders in relation to the transfer of personal data to the US have been extended until September 2023, presumably with the hope of reaching an agreement in light of the Data Privacy Framework coming into force.
