On 29 April 2025 the CNIL (the French data regulator) issued its activity report for 2024.
Highlights include:
- A record number of complaints received – with the consequences of data leaks being a particularly strong cause for concern
- An upsurge in large scale data breaches
- The CNIL’s work on raising awareness and providing guidance on AI
- Raising public awareness in relation to online risks for children
The upsurge in significant data breaches (breaches affecting over 1 million people doubled last year) and recent high profile breaches in the UK at Marks & Spencers and Co-op (to name but two) are good reminders that there is no time like the present to take a hard look at your security practices.
