ICO releases report on automated decision making in recruitment

As part of its AI and Biometrics strategy, the ICO has recently released a report relating to the use of automated decision making for significant decisions in recruitment.

The key finding of the report was that many employers engaging in significant automated decision making for the purposes of recruitment are likely relying on solely automated decisions without meaningful human involvement and are failing to apply appropriate safeguards. The findings also suggested a need for employers to:

  • improve transparency

  • ensure consistency in meaningful human involvement

  • improve their practices in relation to monitoring for fairness and bias

The report details the ICO’s findings and its expectations in relation to these and other matter matters. This is a must read for any organisation using automated decision making in recruitment.
