The ICO has published an updated opinion on age assurance for the Children’s code to reflect updated practices.
The updated opinion covers:
- age assurance methods including age verification, age estimation, self-declaration, waterfall techniques and age buffers
- the legislative framework (including a consideration of the scope of the Children’s code and the Online Safety Act)
- risk assessment and the code, including a section on activities which will be likely to result in a high risk to children and how this interacts with age assurance
- expectations for age assurance and data protection compliance (including how the principles interact with age assurance)
