ICO Snapchat enforcement

The ICO has issued a preliminary enforcement notice against Snap Inc and Snap Group (together Snap) in relation to privacy risks posed by its AI chatbot “My AI”. The ICO’s preliminary finding is that Snap failed to identify and assess the risks posed to their millions of UK users (who include children).

If the preliminary report becomes a final report, Snap may have to stop offering My AI to UK users pending an appropriate risk assessment.

The ICO has underlined the importance of risk assessing AI and directs readers to the resources the ICO has produced to assist those using AI.

In a recent blog post, the ICO highlighted a renewed focus on the UK’s position in relation to AI on the international stage and the need to ensure that “privacy is at the heart of AI development.”
