EU implementing regulation on high value data sets now in force

On 9 June 2024 the implementing regulation on the reuse of “high value datasets” came into force. These rules require public authorities to make such datasets (which include (amongst others) statistics, companies and company ownership information, meteorological and geospatial data and can include personal data) available to the public. The aim of the rules is to allow reuse of the data for various aims. For example, geolocalisation of buildings and mobility data “can open business opportunities for the logistics or transport sectors and improve the efficiency of public service delivery for example by understanding traffic flows to make transport more efficient”.

Any reuse of personal data is allowed on the basis that the data must be generally accessible to the public and the reuse of the data must be carried out in accordance with GDPR.

The rules can be found here.
